Week 3

Week 3

 Monday

It was a busy day Alhamdulilah, first we discussed Ihsan and were asked to share our thoughts regarding this slide.

Ihsan is a beautiful concept in Islam that spurs Muslims to be the best version of themselves. Contrary to popular belief, Ihsan is not only displayed through acts of worship rather, our day-to-day life and interactions.

As a student, I practice Ihsan by putting in my best towards my grades. At times I feel like giving a half-baked work in, I remember that Allah loves that if a work is done, it should be done to perfection. And not to get it wrong, this is not a call to perfectionism, rather it means giving our 100% effort at all times.

Ihsan as a daughter to me is more intricate and deeper than just a student. I think the best ihsan I can show as a daughter is to embody what my parents taught me. They always taught be to be a mindful Muslim and respectful to everyone I meet. So, I try to implement that in all my practices.

Ihsan as a sister is really important to me. I have 4 siblings and we all have a strong bond, Alhamdulilah. Ihsan in this sense is to be there for them when they need me, and to reach out to them to continue maintaining the bond.

Signs of the Day of Judgement

Major Signs

  •  The Emergence of Dajjal
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned the Dajjal to the people and said: “Allah is not one-eyed, but the false messiah (al-Masih al-Dajjal) is one-eyed, blind or defective in his right eye, with his eye looking like a floating grape…” (narrated by al-Bukhari, no. 3184).
  • The Emergence of Ya'juj and Ma'juj
Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan reported from Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered upon her in an agitated state and said, “La ilaha ill-Allah, woe to the Arabs from an evil that has approached! Today a hole like this has been opened in the barrier of Yajuj and Majuj ,” and he made a circle with his thumb and forefinger. Zaynab bint Jahsh said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, will we be destroyed even though there are righteous people among us?’ He said, ‘Yes, if evil becomes overwhelming.’” (Reported by al-Bukhari, 3097).
  • The Emergence of the Beast
Ibn Majah recorded from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
(Hasten to do good deeds before six things appear: the rising of the sun from the west; the smoke; the beast; the Dajjal; and the (death of one of your favorite) or general affliction.) He was the only one who recorded this version.

Wednesday

Unfortunately, I wasn't present for this class but I asked around to see what we took.

The first statement has a right sentiment but not the right wording. I agree that sometimes parents can do things that harm their children and that might make people think that 'not all parents deserve children.' However, that statement puts people as the judge of who deserves to be the parent. The truth is only Allah knows who is deserving to be a parent.  A better statement would be, "All parents should strive to the parents their children deserve."

I agree wholeheartedly with the second statement. You can't pour from an empty cup. If you're empty and hollow inside, it will be hard to treat people kindly. And there's a risk of treating people 'well' but not with the right intentions.

In Nigeria, we have this statement that 'charity begins at home'. This means is that the behaviors that you show at home, is what will follow you out of it. So it matches the statement that your adab at home reflects your adab towards society.

That's all for this week! It was packed and we had three presentations already. The class is coming to close. I'm not ready for that but inshallah, I'll return with another recap for next class.
